Message From Your FAME President

The Board of Directors of the Florida Association for Media in Education (FAME) has been closely monitoring the budget making processes of school districts in the State of Florida because we know that almost every district must make harmful cuts to their programs in order to bring their budgets in line with the recently established Legislative Budget for 2008-2009.  We believe that additional cuts to district budgets are being planned because of two recent events.  1)  The Commissioner of Education sent a memo to each district superintendent requiring them to create a contingency budget should an additional 2% of total potential be withheld by the Governor.  2)  Several utility companies just received on Monday, June 30, permission to dramatically increase utility rates in ways that were not included in most district's budgets prior to this week.  We are asking for updates about how your district is addressing budget cuts to protect students from losing valuable library media programs.

Please send any updates to Bob Cerra at bobcerra@comcast.net.  The FAME Board is proud to serve the needs of our members in this difficult time.  We will bind together as an organization to move public education forward.

Regards,
Miriam W. Needham
